Eva's Phoenix

Eva's Initiatives is an innovative and rapidly expanding organization, which operates three shelters for homeless and at risk youth aged 16-24. We are adding to our vibrant staff team by filling positions at our Eva's Phoenix site, which is a transitional housing and employment training facility for 50 youth, with a focus on counseling, life skills and employment.

One Full Time Youth Counsellor

Counsellors work a shift rotation, and are responsible for providing counselling and support to residents, with a particular focus on over-coming the barriers to staying housed and maintaining employment. Counsellors are responsible for ensuring the shelter is a safe residence. They work with residents in developing and implementing a plan that leads to a more stable lifestyle. Responsiblities include: client counselling and support, case management, general shelter and administrative duties.

Qualifications:

  • Strong counseling skills with a Post Secondary education in counselling or related field
  • Experience working with homeless and at risk youth
  • Experience in supportive counselling and group work
  • Strong computer and documentation skills relevant to counselling
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated experience working with a team
  • Experience with conflict resolution and de-escalation
  • Experience working within a constructive communication model
  • All mandatory hostel training including First Aid and CPR

Some or all of the following experience would be an asset:

  • Conversant in another language
  • Valid drivers license

Full time hours of work average 40 hours/week in a shift rotation including regular evenings and weekends.   The rate of pay is $31,304.00 annually, plus benefits.
